Liverpool are willing to secure a transfer for Frenkie de Jong this summer, according to reports. It won’t be an easy one, however.

This comes from Sport. They claim that Liverpool are willing to pay a big transfer fee for Frenkie de Jong in the summer transfer window. However, they’re not the only ones – Bayern Munich also lie in wait.

There has been talk coming out of Barcelona for some time that De Jong could be on the move. The Dutchman hasn’t really hit the kind of form many expected, while young talents like Pedri and Gavi are worth investment.

Thus De Jong could be a way for financially-stricken Barcelona to raise some cash. Though, it now sounds a little unlikely.

Sport’s report says De Jong wants to remain with the Catalonians. He’s not interested in a transfer and Barcelona are happy to keep him. That shouldn’t be a great surprise as manager Xavi has long held the player in high regard.

He called De Jong ‘extraordinary’ back in 2020, before he became Barcelona boss. It appears that admiration is mutual, with the player enjoying the team’s style of play under the Spaniard.

Liverpool, then, will need to wait for things to fall apart.

Liverpool want Frenkie de Jong

We wrote back in November that Liverpool should try and make this one happen. De Jong is a fantastic talent and one Jurgen Klopp could work absolute wonders with.

And while it might not seem all that likely right now, no one should rule it out. Barcelona are not a club where everything goes to plan right now – there are ups and downs at every single turn. It’s entirely possible that De Jong changes his stance in favour of a transfer this summer.

And in that case, Liverpool should place themselves at the front of the queue. De Jong is a brilliant player and one we’d simply love to see at Anfield.
