Fabinho is some footballer. The Brazilian posted another exceptional performance last night as Liverpool beat Leicester City 2-0.

The 28-year-old’s display led to praise from all corners, including from Michael Owen.

It also appears that Fabinho’s teammates were enamoured with the way he dominated the pitch on Thursday night.

That’s judging by back-up goalie Adrian’s comment on Fabinho’s Instagram post last night.

The Reds’ number 3 posted a picture of him celebrating Diogo Jota’s second goal with Joel Matip.

“Tonight’s feelings were like that. Great one, boys. Great one, Anfield!”

Addressing him by “Flaco”, his nickname within the Liverpool squad, Adrian insisted that his teammate was everywhere against Leicester.

“Grande flaco omnipresente”, wrote the Spaniard. That translates to something along the lines of “Big Flaco omnipresent”.

Omnipresent he certainly is. It was Fabinho who won the ball back high up the pitch to set Liverpool on their way to a second goal last night. That’s a sight we’ve been well used to seeing over the last three and-a-half years.

A blossoming partnership

Fabinho has been a fixture of Jurgen Klopp’s successful Liverpool side. His importance to the team is undeniable. He protects the defence when Liverpool’s full-backs push on in a way few players can.

It was hoped that Thiago Alcantara would be able to become similarly important to Klopp. The Spaniard is one of the most technically gifted footballers on the planet. It was thought that his brand of silky football would add balance to Fabinho’s less nuanced approach.

As it has turned out, Thiago hasn’t been able to stay fit long enough for that to truly take shape. But when the pair have played together, the results have been very impressive.

Liverpool have actually won every game that Thiago has started this season across all competitions.

That it amounts to a meagre 10 games is frustrating. Having returned from a hip injury, Liverpool need to manage the 30-year-old carefully to ensure he’s available for the biggest games.

Last night’s game against Leicester was a good reminder of what Thiago and Fabinho can do when paired together. If they can both stay fit for the rest of the season, Liverpool fans could see about to see one of their best ever midfield partnerships.
