‘World-class player’: Sensational Fabinho & Thiago partnership continues to grow

Liverpool have a sensational partnership growing in midfield and the players clearly agree. This could become something very special.

Thiago believes he’s playing with a ‘world-class player’ at Liverpool in Fabinho. The Spaniard made that very clear, in fact, in an interview with Stadium Astro, telling them that the Brazilian gave everyone else confidence.

“He’s a world-class player that gives us confidence to try different things,” said the Liverpool star. “Because if we fail doing that, we know we have a guy we can rely on. He will defend, he will be there for you and also, he is a magnificent player on the ball.”

And this is actually Thiago returning the compliment to Fabinho. Liverpool’s no.3 told the official site recently that playing with his teammate was ‘easy’.

“Thiago is a really good player,“ he said. “It’s not hard to adapt to a player like this.

“We’ve been playing together I don’t know how long now, but Thiago is someone easy to play with.”

It’s all further evidence of the growing partnership between the two. Liverpool use them as the base of their midfield and to wonderful effect. That’s translating into a brilliant respect, too.

Liverpool players continue to grow together

We’re seeing Thiago play better and better this season – and Fabinho is a huge part of that. Liverpool’s system this season is seeing them move away from a fairly basic midfield three in favour of something slightly new.

The right-sided midfielder drifts far more wide and advanced, with Fabinho and Thiago forming more of a ‘double-pivot’ in the middle. In defence, it’s a three. In attack, it’s more of a two-and-one.

And that puts a little more pressure on Fabinho and Thiago. They look to stop counter-attacks together, while rotating who receives the ball off the centre-backs to recycle possession. For the first time in years, it’s a true midfield partnership at Liverpool.

The fact that the two of them love playing together, find it easy, and consider each other world-class, just shows how strong it can be.

Liverpool are onto something special here.
