Andy Robertson knew what Liverpool had in Luis Diaz from their very first training session together. The pair started together vs Leicester City.

Andy Robertson and Luis Diaz are a new wing combination at Liverpool and we got to see them start together vs Leicester City. It’s safe to say they clicked together.

The energy they provided was remarkable and Liverpool looked overwhelming to kick things off. Both players were happy to run in behind, drop deep and constantly harass the Foxes – a combination made for one another.

Diaz looked very impressive, in particular, given this was his first start. The Colombian honestly just looked like a natural Liverpool player, earning praise from pundits in the BT Sport studio.

But it’s not just pundits and fans who think Diaz looks like a great fit. Robertson, too, says it’s been obvious since the very first training session together.

“His first training session I saw him flying about and I thought ‘he’ll be okay here’,” Robertson told BT Sport. “We just need to let him bed in.

“He’s still got the language to pick up and the way we play and everything. But for his first start, I thought he was excellent today.”

Luis Diaz looks exciting for Liverpool

A really, really promising start here. It was one thing catching the eye against Championship Cardiff City but Diaz was a problem for Leicester here. On another day, he grabs a goal – maybe two.

But Diaz’s runs are spot on, he contributes to the press every time and his energy levels are on point. That’s not usual for Liverpool. Even Robertson, to name one, took a while before truly gelling with the team.

Diaz, though, is good from Day One. Who knows how far he can go from here? What’s for sure, though, is that this is as promising a start as you can expect halfway through the season.
