Michael Owen loved what he saw from Luis Diaz as the Colombian made his first start for Liverpool vs Leicester City. It took just 15 minutes.
Luis Diaz made his first Liverpool start on Thursday evening – a big call from Jurgen Klopp but one that shows off the ridiculous squad depth at Anfield. Mohamed Salah sat on the bench as Diaz shone from the start.
And shine he did. Diaz was heavily involved as Liverpool got underway here, consistently finding the ball across the pitch. The Reds were more than happy to bring the Colombian into play, despite only being at the club for around 10 days.
Diaz looked eager to impress and dynamic enough to do it. Leicester City appeared thrown-off by his movement, in fact.
We certainly weren’t the only ones who liked it, either. Michael Owen was full of praise for the new Liverpool player at half-time for BT Sport.
“We were just drooling over him after about 15 minutes,” said Owen. “He hasn’t done anything in particular where he’s created an unbelievable chance but I love how sharp he is.
“He looks quick, lively, doesn’t mind pressing the ball. He looks like a Liverpool player, like he’ll fit into this team like a glove.”
Luis Diaz shines for Liverpool vs Leicester
It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Diaz looks like a good fit already. It’s how Liverpool operate, after all – they only sign players who tick the right boxes.

Diaz certainly ticks plenty. He’s direct, fast and his work rate is everything you’d hope for from a Red. The fact he’s showing that on his very first start is incredibly exciting, though – Klopp and co. will still want to improve him.
Liverpool appear to have a special player here, then. We can’t wait to see more.
