Jurgen Klopp had to laugh at what Mohamed Salah said to him on his return to Liverpool. The Egyptian suffered AFCON heartbreak.
Mohamed Salah wanted to be celebrating in Egypt right now but he’s instead back with Liverpool, focusing on the next game. It’s Sadio Mane who’s off partying with the Africa Cup of Nations trophy.
Salah suffered penalty heartbreak, of course. He had to stand and watch as his Liverpool teammate made history by winning AFCON for Senegal – Salah, in contrast, didn’t even get to take his penalty.
But it doesn’t sound as though he’s sulking. Rather, Salah just wants to get back to business and push forward.
“Mo is now back, I spoke already to him,” Jurgen Klopp told the official Liverpool site. “He is very disappointed of course, but looking forward to all the things coming up here now.
“I spoke to him and pretty much the first thing Mo told me was: ‘I’m ready.’ Haha!
“He is an experienced player, he is a physical monster, to be honest, so we have to see. He will obviously have a little recovery session today and we will see how he feels tomorrow and from there we go.”

Mohamed Salah ready to fight for Liverpool
It’s the attitude you’d expect from Mohamed Salah but Liverpool must be thrilled with this. Salah is already in contention for Thursday’s game against Leicester City and it sounds as though he’s ready to make a real impact.
It would be so easy to suffer a blow to your mentality after a final like Sunday’s. Salah didn’t even get to have an effect on the shoot-out – he was a bystander like the rest of us. In what was arguably the biggest final of his career, that’s got to hurt.
The best you can hope for, then, is that he uses it to push on another level and it sounds as though that’s happening. Given his form in 2021, that should be a very scary prospect for Leicester and the rest of the Premier League.
