Out of this world: Best Liverpool player of the 2021/22 season so far

There’s only one pick for the best Liverpool player of 2021/22 so far – Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian might be the best in the world.

Liverpool have been brilliant to kick off this season. Considering they’re a team full of players making their way back from injury, things have meshed incredibly well. They’ve only lost one game, for instance, and are on an eight-game winning run.

And several players have been outstanding. Trent Alexander-Arnold is playing at an unbelievable level, while Thiago has been a revelation now he’s finally playing regularly. Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk look world-class again, Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane are scoring goals regularly. It’s all brilliant – we could mention many more.

And yet, somehow, there is no doubt whatsoever who the best Liverpool player of the season so far is – Mohamed Salah.

Mohamed Salah is the best Liverpool player of 2021/22

Honestly, if Salah did nothing else for the rest of the season, he’d probably still be the Reds’ player of the year. You can see that on numbers alone.

He’s leading the Premier League in goals and assists – not just Liverpool. Salah continues to win games on his own and some of his goals this season have been literally unbelievable.

The Egyptian continues to break records, while his mere threat is leading to Liverpool scoring goals. He doesn’t even need the ball anymore.

Just about everything goes through Salah at Liverpool right now, with him drifting from the box to the flank and looking dangerous from both positions. We’ve never really seen anything like it – at Liverpool or otherwise.

It’s debatable whether this is a surprise or not, really. Salah’s 2020/21 campaign flew a little under radar but he scored 31 goals in a complete mess of a team. It was a sensational effort and Liverpool’s third-place finish was as much thanks to him than anyone.

An incredible year from arguably the world’s best player – and there’s only more to come.
