Jurgen Klopp gave an injury update on Luis Diaz after the Colombian went down injured for Liverpool vs Cardiff City on Sunday.

Liverpool enjoyed a very positive day vs Cardiff City as they ran out 3-1 winners. Diogo Jota, Takumi Minamino and a returning Harvey Elliott grabbed the goals – the latter of which being particularly memorable.

There was also a huge ovation for Luis Diaz as he made his Liverpool debut. The Colombian arrived from FC Porto in the summer and is officially a Red, having played the final 30 minutes here.

There was a scary moment, though. Diaz went up for a header and landed holding his knee – a potentially disastrous injury. Replays showed it was actually the way a challenging defender had landed on Diaz, rather than an awkward twist of the knee.

Fortunately, he continued and Jurgen Klopp assured fans after the game that Diaz is okay. “Bruises and a little cut,” he told ITV after the game. “We told him ‘Welcome to England’.”

The Liverpool boss believes there might be a tiny scar but there’s nothing to really worry about here. Diaz is fine and moving forward with his new club.

Diaz wasn’t too involved here but he did show off some really good moments. He’s comfortable running with the ball, looks incredibly sharp and his work for the second Liverpool goal was brilliant.

The Colombian chased down a Cardiff defender in the box as the Bluebirds struggled to get out. He won it back on the byline before showing wonderfully quick feet to work a cut-back. Minamino was on hand to finish for 2-0.

The pressing was fantastic and exactly what Liverpool want to see. That, above all, is a way into the Reds’ first-team and it suggests Diaz is ready to play consistently from the get-go.

That hasn’t always been the case for new signings at the club. Diaz, injury-free, should be one-to-watch already.
