Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy sees comparisons between Declan Rice and Steven Gerrard. The Reds supposedly like the West Ham United midfielder.
Is Declan Rice another Steven Gerrard? Let’s be honest, probably not, but there are a few comparisons there. Both broke through as leaders early in their career and both know how to compete all over midfield.
Rice has become more and more aggressive going forward over the last year or two and showed a wonderful example of that against Kidderminster on Saturday. He came off the bench to save West Ham United with a fantastic solo goal in the 91st minute.
Rice looked so good doing it that former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy compared him to Gerrard in the Daily Mail.
“Rice’s goal was phenomenal,” wrote Murphy. “It was like watching Steven Gerrard back in the day marauding forward and dragging his side back into the game in the last minute.
“I am not saying Rice is as talented as Stevie, but this is the type of midfielder Rice is going to become. He can do so much more that sitting in front of the back four.
“Over the next few years, we will see him develop into a proper No.8, driving forward, getting more goals.”

And that should perhaps be something Liverpool consider.
Liverpool like Declan Rice
Rice is also someone Liverpool supposedly rate highly. That’s according to sources we’ve detailed here. He’s also someone we think would be a wonderful signing – Gerrard comparisons or not.
He’s growing into a magnificent all-around midfielder, one who can shield a defence and drive forward with the ball. Honestly, there’s no greatest replacement for Jordan Henderson if Liverpool want to head in that direction.
Rice would cost an absolute fortune but he is a player Liverpool should look at.
