Jurgen Klopp says Harvey Elliott showcased his ‘biggest talent’ for Liverpool against Cardiff City on Sunday afternoon. The Reds ran out 3-1 winners.

Sunday was a good day for Liverpool. They beat Cardiff City in the FA Cup, putting themselves into the Fifth Round against Norwich City. But that wasn’t all, we also saw the debut of Luis Diaz and – just as importantly – Harvey Elliott returned for Liverpool.

It’s five months in the making, with the teenager having been missing since injuring his ankle vs Leeds United. Not only that but Elliott marked his return with a first ever goal for Liverpool – and what a goal it was.

Elliott controlled a cross with a wonderful first touch followed by an even better finish on the spin for 3-0. It prompted us to say that the 18-year-old looks immediately ready to go, carrying on his incredible form from the start of the campaign.

After the game, Jurgen Klopp voiced similar sentiments, saying Elliott’s ability to deal with his injury was his ‘biggest talent.

Harvey Elliott returns for Liverpool

“Probably his biggest talent is how ready mentally he is for all the stuff out there,” said Klopp, per Liverpoolfc.com. “He is a kid, yes, but on the pitch not so much.

“He was buzzing, he was really waiting for this moment and we were all waiting for it. That we could do it today is just really nice.”

Elliott’s mentality was something we talked about in the summer. His head for the game is incredible for such an inexperienced player and it’s a trait that should take it far.

Klopp quite clearly sees things that way and the sharpness Elliott showed suggests he’s right. His head didn’t go down, he’s remained confident and Liverpool’s greatest prodigy looks ready to contribute to the title charge.
