Liverpool could be lining up their Mohamed Salah replacement with talk of interest in Bukayo Saka. The Reds may have a huge decision to make.

ESPN reported on Thursday that Liverpool have eyes on Bukayo Saka. They’ll move for the player should Arsenal finish outside of the top four, with there only being one year left on his deal.

It would be a huge coup for Liverpool. Saka is one of the most exciting young talents in the league, labelled ‘unbelievable’ by Emile Smith-Rowe this season. There’s competition from Manchester City, too – the Reds would do well to land Saka.

But is there room for Saka at Liverpool? He primarily plays as a right-winger and the team doesn’t just have one of those but he’s arguably the best in the world.

Perhaps, then, Saka is actually Liverpool looking to replace Mohamed Salah.

Mohamed Salah could leave Liverpool

Salah’s contract expires in 2023 and hasn’t yet got a new one. He explained the situation last month in an interview with GQ magazine – he wants to stay but it’s in Liverpool’s hands.

The fact is, Liverpool may well feel pressure to sell Salah at the end of the season. They’ll want to keep him, of course, but that pressure is there without the new contract and quite honestly, they should have eyes on potential replacements.

Saka would be an excellent one, given his fantastic ability at 20 years old. We can only imagine the kind of potential he has working under Jurgen Klopp over the next few years. He’s in the same age bracket as Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Trent Alexander-Arnold, too. Saka would add to this incredible group of young players.

Add in his home-grown status and Liverpool probably won’t find a Salah replacement with more upside. While he certainly hope it doesn’t come to replacing the Egyptian – especially after a season like this – having a backup plan like Saka is the right thing to do.
