Kostas Tsimikas is the first Liverpool player to speak publicly about new signing Luis Diaz. Speaking to liverpoolfc.com, the “Greek Scouser” has been giving his thoughts on what it was like to play against Diaz.
“Obviously when we played against Porto, I think he was their best player,” said Tsimikas.
“I didn’t mark him but I really like his skills. He really goes for one against one, he didn’t think too much. I like him a lot as a player.”
Diaz was indeed a handful for Liverpool. In the game at Anfield in particular, the 25-year-old caused Neco Williams all sorts of problems.
Tsimikas, on the other side of the pitch that night, was impressed with how direct Diaz was. “I like it when a player doesn’t think too much and goes direct to score himself and to try to do something for his team,” said the £12 million left-back.
Kostas is looking forward to seeing more of the same from the Colombian, but in a Liverpool shirt this time.
“Hopefully I will see it here also. He’s an incredible player.”
What else did Tsimikas say
As well as welcoming Diaz, Tsimikas looked ahead to the FA Cup game against Cardiff on Sunday.
The Reds are now back to work after enjoying a couple of weeks off. Having reached the final of the Carabao Cup, the 25-year-old is confident of another domestic cup run starting on Sunday.
“Every game for us is very important. Of course we (got to the final) of the Carabao Cup – why don’t we go for the FA Cup also?” said the Greek international.
“We will be 100 per cent there, focused and hungry for that. We will go for it. We will try to play our game, as always, to do exactly what we do in games, to be 100 per cent focused and to win the game.”
It will be great to see Liverpool back in action after what feels like an age without a game. In Diaz, there may even be a new face amongst the matchday squad.
