Jurgen Klopp is a driving force behind Fabio Carvalho to Liverpool, according to reports. The 19-year-old is out of contract in the summer.
This comes from Fabrizio Romano, writing for the Guardian. He claims that Liverpool still very much want Fabio Carvalho, despite failing with a transfer on deadline day.
The Reds agreed a deal with Fulham but ran out of time, forcing the two sides to abandon things. Now things actually get more complicated, even with Carvalho’s contract expiring in June.
English clubs can agree a pre-contract with the player from May. They won’t get the player for free and will need to pay compensation to Fulham – either agreed with the club or through a tribunal. Foreign clubs, however, won’t need to pay beyond £500k to sign Carvalho.
This will be a fight, then. Fortunately, Jurgen Klopp is supposedly a driving force here and ‘really wants’ the player at Liverpool next season. The Reds will do what they can to sign the player – competition or otherwise.

The Athletic report that Carvalho isn’t necessarily motivated by money here. He wants to join a club that hands chances to youngsters and can boast a good track record with developing players.
Liverpool tick both of those boxes and if Klopp himself wants the player, Carvalho can feel confident about getting games.
Importantly, the Fulham player will know that, too. Liverpool have already held proper discussions with him and offered a deal – we imagine Carvalho had a discussion with Klopp, too.
So the Reds’ intentions are clear and if Carvalho wants a club that believes in him, he doesn’t need to look beyond Liverpool. He’s a player in great form who will command competition for his signature – but Liverpool surely have the upper hand.
