Loris Karius won’t play another game for Liverpool.
Okay, we more-or-less knew that already. But the Liverpool Echo now report that the German will be removed from Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League squad following the arrival of Luis Diaz.

Rules stipulate that 18 overseas players can be registered to play for each Premier League club. With Luis Diaz’s signing making him the 19th such player at Liverpool, someone needs to make way.
The Echo claim that it is Karius who will be the one to be “axed” from the squad, meaning his slim chances of ever playing for Klopp’s side again are now all but over.
A sorry tale
Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Actherberg recently told The Athletic that The Reds were trying to get Karius off the books in the January window.
That never came to pass. Instead the German ‘keeper will stay and leave on a free transfer once his contract ends this summer.
It is the culmination of a difficult Liverpool career for Karius. He started off promisingly enough, but a wrist injury going into the 2016/17 season meant that he didn’t fully wrestle the number one shirt off Simon Mignolet until the end of the following season.

His errors in the Champions League final loss to Real Madrid in Kiev are well documented. But he has had opportunities on loan to bounce back from that and has never managed to take them.
Klopp once called him an “outstandingly skilled” goalkeeper (FourFourTwo). But following Kiev, it was always unlikely that he’d find a way back at Liverpool.
Will Liverpool be short
Beyond Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher, Liverpool also have the veteran ‘keeper Adrian registered.

As he is only 19, Brazilian youngster Marcelo Pitaluga doesn’t need to be registered to play. Should the three more senior goalie’s be unavailable, Pitaluga would likely step in.
Hopefully Karius can find himself a new club where he can establish himself as a number one. It’s a real shame that what was once such a promising career has petered out so dramatically.
