Liverpool confident they can meet Fabio Carvalho demands ahead of a summer move, according to reports. The Reds now face competition.

This comes from the Athletic. They’ve covered exactly what happened between Liverpool and Fabio Carvalho on deadline day when a transfer collapsed.

In short, the two clubs ran out of time. Liverpool offered £5m for Carvalho with the player remaining on loan but it wasn’t until they offered £8m that the Cottagers said yes. Unfortunately, that agreement came too late in the day and the transfer deadline passed before all was wrapped up.

Carvalho is out of contract in the summer, though, and will almost certainly leave Fulham. There’s just no guarantee that’s to Liverpool and the 19-year-old now has his pick of clubs.

Because he’s based in England, Liverpool – and other English clubs – can’t actually negotiate with Carvalho until May. Foreign clubs, however, are allowed to offer him a pre-contract right now and he could accept.

Now, it feels unlikely that he’d do that. It’s in Carvalho’s interest to wait for English clubs to get involved and bid against each other – including Liverpool.

And it appears the Reds remain confident of getting their man, despite the competition.

The Athletic’s report says Carvalho has two serious demands when it comes to accepting an offer, neither of which are financial. Firstly, he wants promises over game-time. Secondly, he wants to join a club with a proven track record for developing youth.

Liverpool apparently believe they can tick both boxes. We can hardly judge the game-time Carvalho would get next season but, certainly, the Reds boast that solid track record.

Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott – creative midfielders, like Carvalho – have had plenty of opportunities this season. The real question is whether all three can get those chances.

But Liverpool feel confident and, of course, they’ve agreed terms once before. There will be an agonising wait to see if Carvalho joins the club, though things sound good right now for the Reds to sign a brilliant player.
