Liverpool could be ready to go all-in on Jurgen Klopp if a free transfer for Paulo Dybala happens. The Reds reportedly want the Argentine.

Tutto Mercato Web claims Liverpool want Paulo Dybala. That certainly brings up a lot of questions as this isn’t typically the kind of move they make. Dybala is a big-name player and one who will command competition.

He’s also a no.10 and Liverpool don’t typically play with one. Throw in a questionable injury record and this seems like a strange transfer in many ways.

Not to mention his reported £8.3m-a-year wage demands. Would you pay that kind of money for someone who only actually played the equivalent of 12 90s in Serie A last season? It certainly seems that Juventus won’t.

But Dybala is unquestionably a hugely talented player – that’s in no doubt. Liverpool would get a fantastically creative forward and someone who could really add another level to their side.

There’s another thing to consider here, however – Dybala’s age. The Argentine is 28, meaning this isn’t a long-term investment. In fact, we’d only feel confident about the next two or three years as a player with his injury record surely won’t be thriving at 32 or 33.

But perhaps that doesn’t really matter. Liverpool might actually be going all-in on Jurgen Klopp with this one.

Liverpool all-in on Jurgen Klopp?

Klopp’s current contract expires in 2024 and that’s a scary thought. Liverpool only actually have two more years of the German after this campaign is done and after that almost certainly comes a downgrade.

The only other manager we’d put on Klopp’s level is Pep Guardiola and we’ll be honest – we can’t see him moving to Anfield. Anyone else will be a step down on Klopp and Liverpool, in all likelihood, will enter a period of rebuilding.

It does make a lot of sense to make use of Klopp while he’s here, then. That means buying players in their prime who can contribute to trophy chases immediately – or at least, within the next two years. Liverpool are going to take a step back regardless after 2024, so focusing on the short-term is smart.

Dybala would be exactly that. There likely isn’t a long-term future there but he would be a brilliant addition for the remainder of Klopp’s contract. For us, that explains why Liverpool might hold interest there.

In a lot of ways, it’s similar to Thiago. We don’t expect him to offer all that much beyond 2024 and that, in fact, is when his contract ends. He’s a signing specifically for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp.

We think Dybala would be the same and if Liverpool really do make a move here, it’ll be in order to keep the team as strong as possible while Klopp is around.
