Multiple reports claim Luis Diaz wants Liverpool over Tottenham

Numerous reports in Portugal claim Luis Diaz wants a move to Liverpool over Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs reportedly bid for the player this week.

Tottenham Hotspur appear to have bid around £46m to sign Luis Diaz on Tuesday. That’s according to Sky Sports among many outlets making the claim. That bid seems to have been rejected, however.

FC Porto clearly want more money, which is in line with previous reports surrounding the player. But there’s also another stumbling block for Spurs – Luis Diaz prefers a move to Liverpool.

That’s certainly the story coming out of Portugal. Record, A Bola and O Jogo all say similar things – that Diaz isn’t really up for a move to Spurs and would prefer Liverpool in the summer.

CMJornal and Jornal de Noticias both name the Reds as very much interested in Diaz, too. Spurs’ bid hasn’t changed that.

Can Liverpool still land Luis Diaz?

We wrote yesterday that Liverpool risked looking very silly if they lost out on Diaz to Spurs. The difference in reported value was around £12m – a fairly small figure if they rate Diaz highly.

Instead, Liverpool could come out of all this looking like a true powerhouse. Diaz is a massive talent – as shown with him being named the ‘Revelation’ of the Copa America this summer – but having him reject the move simply to wait for the Reds would be a massive statement.

It’s quite the turnaround, then, but this one isn’t over. Suggestions are that Spurs will try again and push for this deal before the end of the transfer window on Monday. It doesn’t appear that Liverpool will do the same and their interest hinges on Diaz being willing to wait for a move that may never actually come.

It does sound unlikely on paper but all noise coming out of Portugal suggests Diaz will do just that.
