‘He’s the best’: Jamie Carragher says he’d sign £55m Man City star over any other PL player for Liverpool

Jamie Carragher has named Kevin De Bruyne as the Premier League player he would most like to sign for Liverpool.

The Liverpool legend made the comments while speaking to Gary Neville in a transfer special show for Sky Sports.

Asked by Neville who he would to add to Jurgen Klopp’s squad, if he had the pick of any player in the country, Carragher didn’t even hesitate.

“Kevin De Bruyne. I think he’s one of the best players in the world,” said the pundit.

“Certainly in the last two or three years he’s been the best midfield player in the world”, he continued.

Liverpool’s midfield is often characterised as being workmanlike rather than creative. But Carragher thinks that’s a little unfair.

“People always say Liverpool lack creativity in midfield. I think it’s a bit harsh because I think Liverpool get their creativity from different areas, it’s just the way the team’s set up.”

“That midfield three, whoever it is, does a lot of work for the front three and for the full-backs. So, they’ve got a job to do and they do it really well.”

But the former Liverpool defender says that De Bruyne could add a bit of magic regardless, as long as he stays out of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s way.

“I just think that Kevin De Bruyne is absolutely sensational. I think in that right channel, maybe getting in the way of Trent I don’t know! But I’d say Kevin De Bruyne is the first one that springs to mind.”

Fantasy football

It’s certainly a mouth-watering prospect. De Bruyne has been a terrific signing for Man City since his £55m move from Wolfsburg in 2015.

The Belgian and Alexander-Arnold are two of the most prolific goal creators in the country. To have them linking up in the same team would just be unfair.

It’s easy to agree with Carragher here. Liverpool certainly lack a midfielder with De Bruyne’s qualities. But in Trent, we surely have the next best thing.
