Divock Origi looks likely to stay at Liverpool until the end of the season. The Belgian has been the subject of interest during the January transfer window (The Telegraph). But the Liverpool Echo say he has “not indicated a desire to leave.”
It has previously been reported that the 25-year-old’s contract will run out at the end of this season (Sky Sports). That would make this month the last chance for Liverpool to cash in on a player who has rarely been first choice at Anfield.

But Jurgen Klopp reportedly ‘doesn’t want to lose’ Origi. As a result, it seems that there will be no push from either club or player to get a deal done before next week’s deadline.
This is very much in character for player and manager. Despite his minutes being very limited in the last couple of seasons, Origi has never complained and always seems content with the role he plays.
For his part, Klopp clearly loves his player. He also rates him very highly as a footballer. After Origi scored Liverpool’s dramatic late winner against Wolves in December he said the number 27’s “technical level is incredible”. (The Mirror)

The long goodbye
His status as a Liverpool legend is already secure. Having scored iconic goals throughout his seven year stay on Merseyside, seeing him leave would be a wrench for every Liverpool fan.
But Origi hasn’t played for Liverpool since early December. At the beginning of the season, January was earmarked as a period that he could play a big part in.
Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are away and AFCON. As a result, Origi should have seen much more game time. Unfortunately for the centre-forward, injury has meant that he hasn’t featured at all in that time.

Despite his iconic goals, Origi has often looked short of the quality needed to challenge Salah, Mane and Roberto Firmino to start for Liverpool.
Every season he has been tipped to leave but remains in the squad. It now looks as though we’re entering the last few months of Origi’s Liverpool career. Let’s hope he has one or two more moments up his sleeve before then.
