Curtis Jones once again shone for Liverpool as the Reds won 3-1 vs Crystal Palace. The 20-year-old looks like a potential star right now.
Liverpool beat Crystal Palace 3-1 on Sunday afternoon but the scoreline doesn’t tell the entire story. This was a tough game and one in which Jurgen Klopp’s team rode their luck.
Their second goal probably shouldn’t have counted as Roberto Firmino was offside, while the penalty for the third was certainly debatable. There was also a pretty heavy reliance on Alisson Becker to keep Palace at bay.
Not to say there weren’t positives. Liverpool’s opening 35 minutes, for one, was outstanding as they dominated the hosts. Just about every Red played to a high level and some of the ball movement was brilliant.
We could pick out anyone for praise, then, but we’re going to focus on one Liverpool player – Curtis Jones. Once again, the Scouser showed he’s a potential star.
Curtis Jones impresses for Liverpool vs Crystal Palace
Jones lined up on the left of Liverpool’s midfield three here, as he has done in recent games. It’s a role that fits, allowing him to progress the ball consistently and get the team moving forward.
There’s never really been any doubt that Jones can do that well. In fact, he’s a standout player in the Premier League for progressing the ball – not just Liverpool.
But there’s more to being a midfielder at Anfield than looking good on the ball. Can you defend? Can you press? Are you able to offer consistency and control in the middle?

Jones is now showing he can deliver all of that for Liverpool every time he steps on the pitch. At Selhurst Park, he created three chances – a game-high – while completing 90% of his passes. That’s fantastic and only Virgil van Dijk boasted a higher percentage.
Jones, then, can create chances with little risk – a fantastic trait that suggests he’s got that star potential. But he’s also delivering more than that.
The 20-year-old also won a tackle, an interception and completed a dribble in the 90. It’s an all-around game that, when put with his creativity, really makes him look like the ‘full package’ Klopp described him as earlier in the season.
We’re starting to get very excited about the Liverpool talent, then. Fans have hailed Jones consistently in recent weeks and he just keeps building on it. By the end of the season, he could be something very special.
