Some Liverpool fans thought Curtis Jones was ‘unplayable’ in their win vs Arsenal on Thursday evening. The 20-year-old shone brightly.
Curtis Jones really caught the eye for Liverpool on Thursday as the Reds beat Arsenal at the Emirates. Jurgen Klopp’s side ran out 2-0 winners, with Diogo Jota scoring both goals.
Understandably, that earned the Portuguese star the headlines here. His strikes were fantastic in their own way – the Gunners just couldn’t get near him as his pace and intelligent movement ran them ragged.
But he certainly wasn’t the only Red to play well. Jones, playing just behind Jota on that left flank, was a handful across the 90 minutes.
Jones was absolutely brilliant and resisting Arsenal’s press, frequently turning them inside out and getting Liverpool moving forward. It’s a massive part of the 20-year-old’s game, with him being a wonderful progressive midfielder at his best.
And this was Jones at his best. Whenever Liverpool needed that burst to get out from the back, he was there to provide it – it’s a huge reason for us wanting him in the team right now. Without Thiago or Naby Keita to count on, the Scouser is Jurgen Klopp’s best option in that progressive role.
After this display, it’s hard to argue that, in fact. It was certainly the consensus online as fans flocked to Twitter to hail Jones for his efforts.
Curtis Jones shines for Liverpool vs Arsenal
It’s becoming a frequent thing now. Jones is consistently looking like a difference-maker as Liverpool continue to improve.

Fans hailed him after the win vs Brentford at the weekend, for one. They praised him again a week ago in the draw vs Arsenal, too.
Liverpool just look better with Jones in the team and that’s becoming increasingly difficult to argue against. The truly exciting thing, then, is that Jones clearly has room to grow. He’s not getting the goals or assists he can do – but they’ll come with time.
We can’t wait to see how he develops from here, then. On a great night for Liverpool, the Scouser stood out – now it’s time to help deliver a trophy.
