Alan Shearer thinks that Liverpool still have a chance of winning the Premier League this season. But that depends on them winning their game in hand and beating Manchester City in April.
Shearer was speaking to the Premier League after Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Brentford. “Man City have been relentless in everything they’ve done. 12 games on the spin they’ve now won,” said the pundit.
“It’s been tough for Liverpool and Chelsea to keep pace with City.”

At this point it would be tough for a cheetah to keep pace with Pep Guardiola’s side. They haven’t dropped points in the league since October 30th.
They are no longer blowing teams away though. Their last three league games have all been won by one goal margins, which offers some hope to Liverpool.
It’s credit to Jurgen Klopp and his team that if they do win their game in hand they will still be just about hanging on.
“They have got one more game in hand, they’ve got to win that and they’ve got to go and win at Manchester City.”, said Shearer.

Liverpool need to make sure they are still within seven or eight points when they visit the Etihad on April 9th. That is far easier said than done. But The Reds have some winnable games coming up, they can’t afford not to be perfect.
Although City look relentless now, they will drop points sooner or later. Liverpool need to make sure they capitalise when they do.
It would set up a blockbuster game in Manchester. Liverpool don’t have the best record against the Champions recently. As the Premier League’s all-time top scorer said, that would have to change for them to have any chance of catching City this season.
