Liverpool picked up a 3-0 win vs Brentford on Sunday but Jurgen Klopp says an injury to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was a ‘shadow on the game’.
Liverpool were comfortable in the end against Brentford, controlling the second-half on their way to a 3-0 win. The Reds looked really good here – with certain players seriously impressing.
One player who really stood out was Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The 28-year-old started as a right-winger here, forming a front-three with Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota. We really liked what we saw as Oxlade-Chamberlain constantly threatened space on that side.
His link-up play, for instance, was brilliant with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson down that side. Oxlade-Chamberlain look very natural there for Liverpool, despite not really playing the forward roles very often. He created three chances for teammates, per Whoscored – a sign of just how well he clicked here.
Then there was the goal. Oxlade-Chamberlain managed to drift away from his defender as Andy Robertson drove a wonderful cross from deep, meeting it with his head for 2-0. It was a well-deserved goal and one that essentially sealed the game for Liverpool.
But then came the ‘shadow on the game’ for Liverpool, as Jurgen Klopp called it. Oxlade-Chamberlain went down in the box without any contact – an incredibly worrying sight for someone with his injury record.
Oxlade-Chamberlain injured for Liverpool vs Brentford
“He was really good, but that’s a shadow on the game [and] we don’t know yet [how he is],” said Klopp after the game, per Liverpoolfc.com.

“He rolled his ankle and now we hope it’s nothing serious but we will get the further – or final – information [at the] earliest tomorrow, that’s how it is these situations.
“It’s absolutely too early [to say], I have no idea. I don’t know.”
It’s a massive shame. Oxlade-Chamberlain was brilliant to the point where we’d like to see him retain the role for Liverpool against Arsenal on Thursday. Will that be possible? We’ll just have to wait and see.
Fingers crossed for him – if anyone deserves some injury luck, it’s Oxlade-Chamberlain.
