Trent Alexander-Arnold feels very good about his ‘natural’ partnership with Mohamed Salah at Liverpool. The Reds have something special in the duo.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah are two of the world’s standout players right now. How lucky for Liverpool, then, that they make up their right flank.
The two of them excel when it comes to creativity, as shown by the fact they jointly lead the Premier League’s assist charts. Liverpool rely on them to supply the goals at Anfield.
Together, the two of them run riot on the flank, moving inside and out, swapping roles with whoever the right-sided midfielder is. It’s incredibly difficult to defend – even more so with the understanding Alexander-Arnold and Salah boast.
And according to the Scouser, that understanding is only increasing.
Trent Alexander-Arnold on Liverpool partnership with Mohamed Salah
“[Salah]is always willing to run,” Alexander-Arnold told the Athletic. “He is quite smart with his movement and his signals. This season we have both understood each other’s signals and body shape a lot more.
“I have an understanding of where and how he wants the ball. The signals he gives me… I can’t really go into the signals because the left-backs will be onto them.
“But there are definitely signals he does which indicate where he wants the ball. It is about making sure I read them and am able to execute those passes.”
We’ve talked before about the tactical shift on Liverpool’s right flank this season. Alexander-Arnold is able to take up more central positions, while Salah stays very wide a lot of the time.
That only helps build an understanding, with the two of them needing to swap positions and spaces throughout a game. Clearly, it’s a rewarding partnership – their stats show that off.
And so it’s extra encouraging that Alexander-Arnold only sees it growing further. Liverpool have something special here on their right-hand side – and it’s going to get even better.
