Liverpool scouted Colombian winger Luis Diaz three times in 2021, according to Fabrizio Romano. Reports link the Reds with a transfer.
Do Liverpool actually want Luis Diaz? That’s the big question right now as various reports offer contradicting situations.
Reports linking the two have gone on for a while now, mostly from Portugal. The Athletic, however, claim that Liverpool don’t like the £67m release clause, believing he should cost half of that.
A Bola say the Reds found a way around the release clause, though. They’d offer the majority up front but the rest would be down to various add-ons.
Now, Fabrizio Romano moved to give his take on the situation, saying that Liverpool have definitely looked into a potential transfer.
“There are many rumours on Luis Diaz, a player from Porto,” Romano told his YouTube channel. “Liverpool scouts were in Portugal to watch him three times in 2021.
“They are serious but at the same time, there is nothing between Liverpool and Porto for January. No negotiation, the price is over £60m – so absolutely nothing close to being completed.”

So the Reds have interest here but likely won’t make a serious move until the summer. That’s a little disappointing but it does make sense.
For one thing, there’s no reason to sign a winger to cover AFCON absences anymore. It’s simply too late in the day and by the time Liverpool integrated such a player, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah would be back.
Thus there’s no desperate need to spend over £60m on someone right now. Or at least, not as big a need as there was if Liverpool moved right at the start of the month.
And honestly, we’re not sure the club should make any big commitments before they know what’s happening with Salah. If he doesn’t sign a new contract, they’ll want all of their money for a potential replacement.
It’s disappointing, of course – we’d love to see a major signing – but we’re inclined to believe Romano here.
