Jurgen Klopp likes the look of Luis Diaz and wants him at Liverpool, according to reports. The Colombian is in fantastic for for FC Porto this season.
This comes from Jornal de Notícias. The Portuguese outlet claims Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp could move for Luis Diaz.
The Reds have a major problem coming up, after all. The Africa Cup of Nations takes place early next year, with Naby Keita, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah all playing.
That takes the trio away from the Reds for at least a few games. Though, it remains unclear exactly how long they’ll be gone.
Keita has cover, of course. Mane & Salah, however, don’t have enough – Diogo Jota can only replace one of them on the flank.
Thus moving for a winger in January makes sense, even if we’d have preferred the player to arrive in the summer. But Liverpool will want quality cover and spending cash is the best way to do that.
If they can find the right player, of course.
Luis Diaz to Liverpool?
Diaz may well be that player. He’s hit another level in 2021, for both Colombia and Porto.
Diaz shone at the Copa America, scoring a magnificent goal against Argentina in the semi-finals. He followed that with two goals in the Third-Place Playoff to overcome Peru. Diaz actually finished as joint-top scorer with Lionel Messi in the competition, in fact.
And that form carried into this season. Diaz has nine goals in 11 Primeira Liga games, all from the left wing. He’s added a couple in the Champions League, too.

So as far as goalscoring wingers go, Liverpool won’t find much better. At least, they won’t find anyone in better form.
The real question, then, is whether Porto would sell. It seems they would, per Record, but only for a massive fee – around £67m.
Would Liverpool pay that in January? They did for Virgil van Dijk back in 2018 but that was a special case. It’ll depend on just how highly they rate Diaz, then.
If they believe he could be the future of their left wing, that’s not an unreasonable fee.
