Liverpool have eyes on a free transfer for Randal Kolo Muani, according to reports. The Nantes forward is attracting attention.
This comes from Bild. They claim Liverpool are now in the transfer race for Nantes striker Randal Kolo Muani.
Now, they’re not the only ones. AC Milan also want to sign Kolo Muani – something backed up by Gazzetta Dello Sport. That’s bad news for Eintracht Frankfurt, who find themselves up against two massive clubs for a striker they’re desperate to sign.
Frankfurt have apparently been trying to sign Kolo Muani for over a year but couldn’t agree a fee. We imagine that’s because of the Frenchman’s contract situation – it expires in June. The German club won’t have wanted to pay over the odds for him, then, while Nantes have been reluctant to give the player up before they absolutely have to.
And that leaves us where we are now. Kolo Muani is out of contract in the summer and that represents an incredible bargain to interested clubs.
Liverpool look into Randal Kolo Muani transfer
This one makes sense from every angle, really. No, he wouldn’t be the blockbuster signing that many want but Kolo Muani would undoubtedly be a smart addition.
He’s still only 23 but has 16 goals and six assist in Ligue 1 over the last 18 months. That includes nine goals in a struggling 18th-place Nantes team last season, while his seven goals this campaign have helped the team rise to 7th.
But it’s the little things with Kolo Muani that will make him interesting to Liverpool. He can play both as a centre-forward and as a right-winger, for instance, while his pressing raised eyebrows last season. The 23-year-old was successful with 30% of his presses – a huge number that Liverpool could even improve on.
Kolo Muani can create shots from his dribbling, too, which is something the Reds have really leaned into with Diogo Jota this season. Adding another threat like that will be tempting.
He’s also someone who impressed Thierry Henry, who lauded the striker for a goal while covering Ligue 1 for Amazon this season.
So we think this is one to watch at the very least. Signing Kolo Muani for free would be a steal and he’d be a wonderful addition to the squad. Even better, he could slot in alongside the big-money transfer we’re still hoping for from Liverpool.
