Confirmed Liverpool lineup & reaction after triple blow vs Chelsea

Here’s the confirmed Liverpool lineup vs Chelsea in the Premier League today. Both teams go into this one in a depleted state.

What a ridiculous situation this one is. Both Liverpool and Chelsea head into the fixture surrounded by chaos, with players and staff missing the fixture.

Chelsea’s absences are a mix. We’ve known for a little while now that they’d miss both their first-choice wingbacks, for instance, in a real blow for the Blues. Now they’ll also be without Romelu Lukaku – and the Reds will have to adapt.

As for Liverpool, we know they won’t have Thiago once again. Even more notably, they won’t have Jurgen Klopp on the touchline as he’s tested positive for Covid-19. That makes this one unique, if nothing else.

Liverpool also announced during the week that three players tested positive, however. They didn’t name any names, meaning this was an incredibly difficult Liverpool team to predict.

So let’s see what they’ve gone for.

Confirmed Liverpool lineup vs Chelsea

Caoimhin Kelleher

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Ibrahima Konate

Virgil van Dijk

Kostas Tsimikas

Fabinho

James Milner

Jordan Hendesron

Mohamed Salah

Diogo Jota

Sadio Mane

Kelleher
Alexander-Arnold – Konate – Van Dijk – Tsimikas
Fabinho
Henderson – Milner
Salah – Jota – Mane

Liverpool announced shortly before kick-off that Alisson Becker, Joel Matip and Roberto Firmino would all miss the clash. They’ve tested positive for Covid-19, much as Klopp has.

And so the Liverpool team isn’t exactly a shock. The only issue we have with it is Milner over Naby Keita – we really think the Reds need him to replace Thiago.

Liverpool clearly think otherwise, however.

Reaction

A lot of disappointment over the Keita decision, then. However, the reaction to it is so over the top you’d think Liverpool were playing a pub midfield.

Instead, they’ve got one of the world’s best defensive midfielders, a captain with one of the best records in the Premier League, and one of the most reliable players around. But hey, maybe randoms on Twitter simply know better.

Liverpool should still have enough to win this – but it won’t be an easy one.
