‘Never mind Liverpool’: Pundit picutres Trent Alexander-Arnold at Real Madrid

Trent Alexander-Arnold would fit in at Real Madrid – ‘never mind Liverpool’. That’s according to one BBC pundit, anyway.

Garth Crooks believes Trent Alexander-Arnold could play for Real Madrid, ‘never mind Liverpool’. It’s a notable way of phrasing things, sure.

“The England full-back also became the focus of the ridiculous argument as to whether he is good enough for England’s starting line-up or not,” Crooks wrote for the BBC. “Well, there’s no doubt about that as far as I am concerned.

“This kid is good enough to play for Real Madrid, never mind Liverpool, and he makes my team [of the year] for the second consecutive year.”

It’s a bizarre take, really. Of course, Alexander-Arnold is good enough to play for Real Madrid – they’re not as good as Liverpool. In fact, there’s not a single player in their defence that the Reds would take over what they already have.

So to talk about Liverpool as if they’re a minnow whose players would be lucky to make it at Real Madrid is just odd. We wouldn’t swap our XI for theirs – wouldn’t even consider it.

Alexander-Arnold – good enough for Liverpool

The Alexander-Arnold claim wasn’t even the only strange decision from Crooks in his Team of the Year. He also managed to leave out Mohamed Salah.

Honestly, we’re not sure how Salah doesn’t make a team like this one his form this season alone. But the Egyptian was also brilliant to start 2021, scoring nine goals and essentially carrying Liverpool to a top-three finish.

The fact he currently leads the Premier League in both goals and assists should make it all a certainty. But apparently, Bukayo Saka has been better. It does make you wonder what Salah would have to do to get proper recognition at this point.

It feels that no matter what he does, certain people just won’t recognise how sensational he’s been for Liverpool. Or in the case of Alexander-Arnold, how good this team really is.
