Liverpool should have a leg up on Bayern Munich in a transfer race, according to reports. The Reds supposedly want Raphinha from Leeds United.
This comes from Spox in Germany. They claim that Bayern Munich do want to sign Raphinha – just not as much as Liverpool do.
Such a transfer would be very expensive for Bayern, costing them far more than they usually pay for players. Still, they do have eyes on the Brazilian and while a January transfer is out of the question, the Bavarians could move in the summer.
But that interest would also depend on Kingsley Coman leaving the club. That’s very possible but it does mean that Bayern aren’t exactly all-in on this one. Liverpool, on the other hand, are said to be big admirers of Raphinha.
The Reds are ‘definitely interested’, say Spox, and have a good relationship with Deco – Raphinha’s agent. It certainly sounds as though Liverpool have the upper ground over Bayern for any transfer.
Liverpool lead Raphinha transfer race
Raphinha wouldn’t exactly be a cheap signing. Fabrizio Romano has previously stated an asking price above £60m – but that was last summer.
“I would keep an eye on the situation of Liverpool,” he told Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel.
“They wanted him last summer. He was one of their targets. They wanted to sign a winger but it was impossible to sign him because Leeds wanted to keep him and the price was too high, it was more than £60m.”
Fast-forward to next summer and Leeds will likely want more. Possibly even far more, actually, as their struggles have highlighted just how good Raphinha is.
If he is available, it does sound as though Liverpool front the queue, though. Now they’ve just got to decide if he’s worth all the money.
