Trent Alexander-Arnold says he’s a big fan of one arch-rival at Manchester City. The Liverpool full-back would sign him if he could.

Premier League Uncut asked Trent Alexander-Arnold an interesting question this week. If he could sign any two players for Liverpool, who would they be?

“[Kevin] De Bruyne and Son [Heung-Min],” said Alexander-Arnold.

“De Bruyne because I admire him a lot as a player. His vision, his technique, his accuracy. Outstanding player. The assists and the chances created he does is frightening.

“Son, again, an outstanding player. The speed, finishing and composure.”

It’s obviously interesting to hear Alexander-Arnold comment on De Bruyne like that. The two of them are the Premier League’s most creative players, lighting up the assist charts over the last few years.

In fact, they’re essentially direct rivals. Both Liverpool and Manchester City turn to these two as their first-choice playmakers in their title pursuits.

Alexander-Arnold clearly rates De Bruyne highly, though – he sounds in awe of him, really.

Could Alexander-Arnold & De Bruyne play together?

Funnily enough, the two of them are playing more and more similar positions. De Bruyne excels at drifting a little wider from a central role into the right-hand channel, looking to whip balls in behind.

Alexander-Arnold, on the other hand, is moving the other way. He’s operating in a similar channel now as Liverpool look to move him away from solely being a wide player. Like De Bruyne, he wants to play those deeper passes in behind.

We actually think the two would be remarkable together, able to switch back and forth to offer a dual-threat from all over the pitch. Both might prefer that channel but they’re just as dangerous when moving out of it, too.

Now, there’s certainly no chance whatsoever that Liverpool will sign De Bruyne – but we can dream. What a partnership they’d be.
