Liverpool will face Inter Milan after Christmas in the Champions League and Italian legend Marco Tardelli might have given the Reds a huge advantage.

The former Inter star has begun the war of words; taking a pretty random swipe at the six-time winners of the famous competition.

Tardelli scored the winner in the 1982 World Cup Final and it’s fair to say he’s not impressed by Liverpool.

He’s been quizzed on the forthcoming clash and his comments on the Reds are pretty damning.

The former midfielder told Gazzetta dello Sport, via the Daily Mail: “I hear people say that Liverpool are unplayable but no team is, especially against this Inter side.

“The fouls that Liverpool players did against Tottenham; they’d have received a 10-match ban in Italy.

“Besides, Liverpool are almost arrogant in the way they play. They’re aware of his strong they are and how much protection they enjoy.”

Liverpool qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League in emphatic style.

They won all six of their group games, despite being placed in a group alongside Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Porto.

Bizarre: Advantage Klopp in quest for another Liverpool title

Congratulations must go to Tardelli; he’s now saved Jurgen Klopp a job and basically done his team talk for him ahead of the Champions League tie.

Liverpool have every right to showcase a bit of arrogance. They blew away their rivals in the group stages; despite many calling it the group of death.

Klopp has developed a stunning style of play during his time at Liverpool. With that in mind, they can’t be written off when it comes to claiming another Champions League crown.

It’s uncertain what Tardelli is trying to achieve with these comments.

One thing for certain is that Klopp will be ecstatic.

This public blast has saved him a job and he’d be wise to pin these comments to the dressing room wall when the two sides meet in February.
