Jurgen Klopp predicts ‘a lot to come’ from Diogo Jota

Jurgen Klopp expects a lot more to come from one Liverpool player. Diogo Jota isn’t yet at his peak, it seems.

Diogo Jota is in sparkling form this season for Liverpool. He’s the Premier League’s joint-second top goalscorer, for one, with only Mohamed Salah’s ridiculousness above him.

It’s fantastic to see, in all truth. Jota had a wonderful debut campaign with Liverpool but only actually played 19 league games. There was half a concern that the small sample size wouldn’t hold up long-term but there’s no worry anymore.

Jota is electric, scoring goals at a fantastic rate and developing his all-around game. We’ve had issues with the 24-year-old failing to match Roberto Firmino’s link-up play when playing as a centre-forward, for instance. Recent games show how he’s adapting, however, with the peak coming against Everton.

And we’re far from the only ones seeing that as Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool haven’t seen the best of Jota yet.

“Diogo has developed in the last few months a proper killer instinct,” he told a press conference on Friday. “He’s there in the moments, the right spaces, brings himself into good situations.

“I think his link-up play, especially on this half-left with Sadio [Mane], is exceptional. So I like watching him, he’s still young and there’s still a lot more to come from him.”

We’re behind every word. Jota looks like a far better fit for Liverpool right now, working well with teammates and keeping the system fluid. The fact he’s adapting like that and still scoring so many goals is just incredible, really.

It doesn’t really need saying but Jota has been a brilliant signing for Liverpool. And we think Klopp is right – there’s even more to come as he just keeps getting better.
