Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says he doesn’t expect to see a similar strike from Trent Alexander-Arnold anytime soon. The Scouser scored a wonder goal against Newcastle.

Trent Alexander-Arnold grabbed himself the headlines against Newcastle United with a world-class strike. With Liverpool trying to see out the game at 2-1, the right-back found himself in the left-hand channel, 25 yards from goal.

He teed himself up and launched a rocket into the top corner – a sensational hit that few players could pull off. It felt like the kind of goal Alexander-Arnold is capable of, even though he’s never really done it before.

There have been some great long-range hits, usually from free-kicks, but none with power like this. Jurgen Klopp doesn’t expect his Liverpool player to do it again anytime soon, however.

“Now it’s not the case that he is 20 times a game in the position in the half-left half-space where he scored the goal from yesterday, that’s pretty much the only space where he is not very often,” Klopp said, per Liverpoolfc.com.

“But scoring from there is obviously something he might have to wait another five years for because it’s just not his position. But doing it is pretty special.

“I can imagine hitting a ball like this, seeing it flying and then hearing the sound when it goes in the back of the net is absolutely special.”

If anything, this is ammunition for those who feel Alexander-Arnold should be in midfield. After all, Klopp is right about the player just never being in that position.

The 23-year-old spends his entire game on the right flank, given his starting position and role. We don’t for a second believe he should move from there, though. His crossing and passing is far more valuable than the occasional long-range strike – but you can see the appeal.

So no, we likely won’t see something similar for some time, as Klopp says. Alexander-Arnold is truly a magnificent all-around player, though, and his strike showed that off. He excels even at things Liverpool don’t need him to do – the mark of a world-class talent.
