Report: Surprise Jude Bellingham push is only chance Liverpool have

Liverpool would need to make a surprise transfer push to stand any chance at Jude Bellingham, according to reports. It’s one some don’t see coming.

This comes from SportBild. They suggest that Borussia Dortmund have absolutely no intention of selling Jude Bellingham in 2022. This comes after reports in the British press that Liverpool lead the transfer race.

Dortmund, though, would much rather hold onto the youngster. He has a contract with them until 2025 and they hold long-term plans – which does make sense.

Bellingham will only improve and, in all likelihood, increase his value over the next few years. Even if their plan was to sell, doing so in 2023 would almost certainly net them more cash.

There is a suggestion here, though, that Liverpool could try and force things. After all, Bellingham demanding a transfer would put Dortmund in a difficult position. They could well take the cash at that point.

But SportBild make it clear that such a push from Liverpool would be a huge surprise. Jurgen Klopp’s links to Dortmund mean he would almost certainly feel uncomfortable in putting that on them.

Liverpool, then, may have to wait this one out.

Liverpool likely won’t see Jude Bellingham in 2022

This shouldn’t be a great shock, given Bellingham is still only 18. It makes financial sense for Dortmund to wait, get what they can from him as a player, and then sell for more.

But it also shouldn’t shock anyone that Liverpool are hovering. Sport1 said they would, as well as mentioning a £100m price tag on the teenager.

Now, it sound as though even that wouldn’t be enough to get Bellingham away from Dortmund. If it would, though, we’ve argued before that Liverpool should pay it.

Waiting until 2023 is hardly the end of the world, however, is that’s what it takes. Liverpool still have their shot at this incredible talent – just probably not in 2022.
