Liverpool show off outrageous advantage vs Milan that will worry title rivals

Liverpool pulled off a 2-1 win vs AC Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday evening. It’s a win that will worry their title rivals this season.

Liverpool went to San Siro last night with a weakened side. Alisson, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah started the game but beyond that, this was a heavily rotated team.

Jurgen Klopp opted to start Neco Williams and right-back, Tyler Morton in a holding midfield role and Nat Phillips got his first start of the season. All three were very impressive, though, despite the tough night.

For one thing, Liverpool didn’t need a result here but Milan did. It’s a difficult place to go in the Champions League anyway, let alone when motivations go against you. This second-string side more than held their own, however – they deserved their win.

And for us, that deserves a lot of praise. Enough that Liverpool’s title rivals won’t feel good about this result.

Liverpool look good vs Milan

Liverpool have an outstanding starting XI – the best in the world, for us. The only real question over them is about their squad depth, where the Reds can potentially look weak. Compare them to Manchester City or Chelsea and it does appear that they’re lacking beyond their best players.

But the win over Milan suggests Liverpool have actually got quite a special squad here. Klopp didn’t use the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Jordan Henderson, Thiago or Diogo Jota at all and still won 2-1 away at the team that leads Serie A.

How many teams could do that? How many teams could give their fifth-choice centre-back a game against Zlatan Ibrahimovic and come out singing his praises?

Not many at all. And if Liverpool’s depth is actually stronger than it looks – even without being perfect – this squad is quite scary. A couple of injuries here and there won’t derail it, certainly, and that gives Liverpool a fantastic advantage in the title race.

This squad is capable of beating anyone and can pick up impressive wins even when rotated heavily. For us, that should seriously worry the title rivals – Liverpool may not have a weakness and they proved it against Milan.
