Some Liverpool fans came away from the win vs Milan in the Champions League with serious excitement over Tyler Morton. The 19-year-old excelled in midfield at San Siro.
Tyler Morton is quickly becoming something to shout about. The teenager started again for Liverpool in their 2-1 win vs Milan at San Siro on Tuesday evening. He played at the base of midfield, keeping the ball well and sweeping up behind the press.
It’s hardly an easy job for any player, let alone a 19-year-old. This was a tough away fixture in the Champions League, with Milan having everything to play for. Morton, though, looked incredibly composed for a player of little experience.
His stats tell the story. Morton kept an 84% pass completion rate in Milan (per Whoscored), helping Liverpool to just about carry the majority of possession. That was his key role and Morton did it well – only six players on the pitch completed more passes.
Morton also picked up three interceptions in this one, which was the joint-most alongside Ibrahima Konate and Alessio Romagnoli. It’s an impressive stat for a youngster, suggesting he read the game as well as anyone.
This wasn’t a starring role, then, but it was a sign that Morton can handle himself even in a tense environment. That’s a pretty wonderful thing from teenager – it’ll stand him in good stead as his skills develop.
In fact, the future looks really bright for Morton. That was the sense fans got from this one, certainly, as they moved to praise him after the game.

So where does Morton go from here? We saw Naby Keita return from injury tonight, for instance, which adds another senior midfielder to the mix. It’s difficult to see how the 19-year-old plays with regularity over the coming weeks, then.

But we imagine Morton will make an appearance of some sort in the EFL Cup quarter-final and the FA Cup next month. But that’s only the short term.
It’s the long-term that’s so exciting with Morton. We really can’t wait to see how he develops.
