Liverpool making it impossible to deny Premier League title truth

Liverpool are making it very difficult to deny a truth about the Premier League title. Last season’s should have been theirs.

Liverpool’s XI against Everton on Wednesday was special. It saw Jurgen Klopp put out his best selection of the season, with injuries preventing him from doing so up to now.

Andy Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Thiago, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have all been out for periods already. Fortunately, they all recovered fairly quickly and Liverpool are still in this title race.

And that meant all could make the XI to face Everton. Incredibly, this was an XI we’ve never seen before – despite all being at the club last season, too.

We literally hadn’t seen it at Liverpool before, despite it being the plan for last season’s attempt at retaining the Premier League title. And that brings us to a truth from last season – that should have been the Reds’.

Liverpool denied Premier League title

Liverpool are flying right now and we saw just how good that XI was against Everton. What a shame we had to wait, then.

Because if that team was available last season, Liverpool would have won the Premier League title. We don’t see how that’s in doubt right now.

Liverpool, of course, went into the season with plans that fell apart in October. Virgil van Dijk picked up a season-ending injury at Goodison Park that month. Thiago would be out for two months, too, and Joe Gomez followed in November.

In fact, by March, three of the players in that XI were done for the campaign, as well as some backups.

Klopp, then, needed to chop and change. Injuries all season derailed his plans, forcing him to rotate where he didn’t want to and put out subpar XIs.

Yet, Liverpool were top at Christmas. It was only the January – March period that crippled them as the injuries really caught up.

We’re seeing now the team Liverpool should have had in their title pursuit, though. This is the one that should have carried on that pre-Christmas form into a proper title bid – and it’s brilliant, carving teams open for fun and scoring record-breaking amounts.

They had a significant lead over Manchester City by Christmas last year, while Chelsea were never in the race. If this XI had been available – as it was supposed to be – Liverpool would have been title winners. Watching it now, we’re not sure anyone can doubt that.
