Andy Robertson put in a sensational performance for Liverpool vs Everton on Wednesday. The Scot reminded everyone that he’s the world’s best left-back.

Andy Robertson hasn’t been perfect this season. He’s essentially spent the season either injured or playing in particularly difficult games. That’s allowed Kostas Tsimikas to put real pressure on him for the left-back spot.

The Greek has been wonderful and fans, rightly, have wondered whether he should start over Robertson. Well, the Scot put that argument to bed against Everton.

Andy Robertson dominates for Liverpool vs Everton

Robertson was superb out of the gates here, registering an assist for Jordan Henderson’s goal inside ten minutes. The captain performed the magic, of course, but his left-back proved difficult for Everton to handle.

And it stayed that way throughout the game. Robertson’s stats coming out of this one are quite incredible.

There’s the fact he got two assists, for starters. Robertson set up Diogo Jota’s goal for four one, 70 minutes after his first assist. He created three chances in total – a figure only Jota himself matched.

That creativity alone is reason to hail Robertson but it was his defensive work that made this a world-class display. He won a ridiculous five tackles – over half of what Everton managed as a team.

That was at least two more than any other player and he did it at a 100% success rate. That’s sensational.

Robertson was brilliant going forward, brilliant in defence and heavily involved throughout (only Trent Alexander-Arnold had more touches). This wasn’t just Liverpool getting the best of their left-back, it was a reminder that he’s the best in the world.

Everton vs Liverpool is no ordinary game, after all. It’s the derby – a game played under intense pressure where mistakes get punished.

Robertson, though, was virtually perfect. We don’t know of any other left-back on the planet who could have played this well in such a heated game.
