4-3-3: Updated predicted Liverpool lineup v Arsenal after injury concerns

Here’s our updated predicted Liverpool lineup v Arsenal later today. Injury concerns have torn through the Reds in the buildup to this one.

We put out our predicted lineup for Liverpool v Arsenal earlier this week. Then the full extent of the Reds’ injury crisis became clear.

Jurgen Klopp explained things in his pre-match press conference. Essentially, Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Roberto Firmino are out of this one.

James Milner and Naby Keita will almost certainly miss it, too. Then there are Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Andy Robertson, who all face late fitness tests.

Just the nine players, then.

So with all that in mind, let’s have a look at what Liverpool might do.

Liverpool v Arsenal

Defence

Alisson in goal – that’s nice and easy. Trent Alexander-Arnold will play at right-back, too, and Virgil van Dijk is a near-certainty.

We think playing Kostas Tsimikas at left-back makes the most sense. He’s in good form and there’s little reason to risk Robertson – not with such a busy period coming up.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

As for Van Dijk’s partner, we’ll stick with Joel Matip but there’s a real case for it to be Ibrahima Konate.

Midfield

It does sound as though Fabinho will be okay, so we’ll expect to see him in the holding role. It might be quite obvious beyond him, too – Liverpool only have two definitely-fit midfielders.

So perhaps it’ll be Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain joining the Brazilian and Thiago. Like with Robertson, we don’t see the sense in risking Henderson if he’s got a problem.

Oxlade-Chamberlain could be the right player for this type of game, too.

Attack

Thankfully, this one is routine. Mohamed Salah will play from the right, Diogo Jota down the middle and Sadio Mane on the left.

There were some worries over the latter but Klopp ensures he’s okay and ready to go.
