Report: Contract clause complicates Karim Adeyemi signing

Signing Karim Adeyemi isn’t as straightforward as teams would hope, according to reports. The German striker could leave RB Salzburg in 2022 – with Liverpool interested.

This comes from Transfermarkt. They claim that RB Salzburg could sell Karim Adeyemi before long.

That much is expected, however. Adeyemi has been in sensational form this season and at just 19, the potential appears huge. Clubs all over Europe will want him.

But this isn’t an easy signing to make. That’s because of a contract clause put into the deal that saw Adeyemi join Salzburg in 2016.

Adeyemi joined from SpVgg Unterhaching and while the initial fee was fairly routine, the sell-on clause wasn’t. Unterhaching are now entitled to 22.5% of any sale.

That’s a considerable chunk. If Salzburg sold Adeyemi for around £30m, they’d have to immediately give up over £6m.

Is anyone signing Adeyemi?

Sport1 are the latest outlet reporting on Adeyemi moving. They claim that Borussia Dortmund executives have held a meeting and offered the player over €3m per year.

They also claim Liverpool are in the mix for the player – something long reported elsewhere. Austrian outlet Orf and Sky Germany are just two of the places saying the Reds want Adeyemi.

But Liverpool’s interest apparently dates back some time. Goal claim it’s been there since at least 2018.

And for what it’s worth, we think Adeyemi would be a tremendous signing. He’s been incredible this season and has taken a leading role in Salzburg’s Champions League campaign.

Any doubts that he only looked good in the Austrian Bundesliga are well and truly false.

The only real issue now is that Adeyemi’s performances are increasing the hype around him. More and more elite clubs will take notice and get involved here, driving up the price.

And with Salzburg knowing they owe Unterhaching such a large percentage, this transfer fee could get out of hand.
