Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave his take on Mohamed Salah as the Egyptian continues his record-breaking form. The Liverpool winger heads to Old Trafford on Sunday.

It’s Manchester United vs Liverpool on Sunday and who really knows what will happen? No game in the Premier League boasts an array of attacking talent like this and the two teams have 38 goals between them already this season.

But one player, in particular, stands out. Mohamed Salah is currently in the form of his life, scoring seven times in eight games and providing another four assists.

In fact, the Egyptian is regularly setting records and did so in the week. Salah became Liverpool’s all-time top Champions League goalscorer, as well as the first Red to score in nine consecutive games.

Can he make it 10 in a row against United? No one would bet against him and even Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits the Liverpool star is ‘on fire’ right now.

Solskjaer on Salah

Journalists asked Solskjear for a comparison between Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo. Unsurprisingly, he backed his own player but the United boss also gave a flowing review of his rival.

“His [Ronaldo’s] goalscoring record is incredible and he just keeps on scoring,” said Solskjaer, per the BBC. “That being said, Salah, at the moment, he’s on fire.

“You see some of the goals he’s scored lately. We know we have to be at our best to defend against him.

“You know, players like this don’t come around very often and we have to enjoy them from afar, not on Sunday, that’s too close for me.”

It is nice to know that Solskjaer tries to enjoy Salah from afar. We’re not sure we’d say that about any United player.

Hopefully, though, he doesn’t enjoy Salah’s performance on Sunday as the 29-year-old chases yet another record. If he scores at Old Trafford, Salah will move past Didier Drogba as the top-scoring African in top-flight English football.

And with the way he’s playing, we’d be quite surprised if he didn’t.
