Some Liverpool fans are very eager for Jeremy Doku to join the Reds. This comes as a journalist claims the club front the queue.
Liverpool are supposedly in pole position for Jeremy Doku. The 19-year-old is one of the most interesting young wingers in Europe right now and likely won’t remain with Rennes for too long.
In fact, a transfer could happen in 2022. Belgian journalist Alexandre Braeckman says Doku could leave Rennes next year and that Liverpool are in pole position to sign him.
You can read our initial thoughts on the rumour here.
The latter shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Liverpool have had eyes on Doku since at least 2018, having attempted to sign him from Anderlecht back then, per the Guardian.
Doku opted against taking such a big step up but Liverpool clearly see his talent. Now he’s showing that on a much bigger stage, having caught the eye at Euro 2020 with Belgium.
So if the 19-year-old truly is ready for his next step, you can expect Liverpool to get involved. Much will depend on the asking price, of course, but anything reasonable may well tempt the Reds.
And according to many fans, that’s a step in the right direction for everyone.

Hmmmm. He's got massive potential. Would prefer Sarr but wouldn't complain if we did sign doku.

Doku is a signing that could make a lot of sense. He’d be an investment into Liverpool’s future and a post-Sadio Mane era on the left-wing. If he can even remotely live up to the current no.10, any deal would be a wonderful one.

But Doku is still rough around the edges. He doesn’t boast the same numbers as certain other young stars and his end product isn’t quite there yet.
Still, Liverpool need a long-term option on the wing and Doku is exactly that. He fits the profile of a Jurgen Klopp winger, while we know the club has done extensive research and scouting on him.
As we say, we’d need to know that asking price. But for anything reasonable, Doku could end up being a fantastic development project.
