Liverpool could move for Jeremy Doku in 2022, according to reports. The Reds are supposedly in pole position for the teenager.
Belgian RTL journalist Alexandre Braeckman believes Liverpool are right at the front of the queue for Jeremy Doku. He wrote on Twitter that a 2022 transfer is on the cards.
This isn’t the first time Doku has been linked with Liverpool – far from it, in fact. Journalist Sacha Tavolieri told The Anfield Talk that the Reds were eyeing up a move last summer.
Nothing came of that, of course, but we know Liverpool’s interest here is long-standing. They actually tried to sign Doku years ago, per the Guardian, only for the teenager to choose a smaller stepping stone.
And if Liverpool liked what they saw then, they’ll love what he’s doing now. Doku has only gone on to prove his potential, earning a move to Rennes and shining for the Belgian National Team.
His movement at Euro 2020 was magnificent – he certainly impressed Gary Lineker – suggesting there’s a very special player here with the right development. Liverpool will surely back themselves to give him that.
Jeremy Doku in 2022?
It makes sense for Liverpool to invest in an exciting young winger. Both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah will be over 30 by next season, after all.
Kaide Gordon is there and could be the future but he’s nowhere near as proven as someone like Doku. On top of that, they can play on opposite sides.
This one will almost certainly come down to price. Rennes will not sell their prized asset on the cheap – Doku could well cost a fortune. Liverpool need to figure out if the potential they see in him justifies the price.
They’ll be encouraged by his path so far, then. Doku has gone on to develop just how Liverpool though he would. A little bit more and we could be looking at the future of the Reds’ attack.
