Paris Saint-Germain considered Jordan Henderson this summer, according to reports. The Liverpool captain ended up with a new contract, of course.
This comes from Fabrizio Romano. The journalist claims that Paris Saint-Germain had Jordan Henderson on their shortlist this summer.
“For Jordan Henderson, I want to say, behind the scenes, PSG were thinking about signing Jordan Henderson as a potential new signing before the Leo Messi opportunity,” he told his Here We Go podcast.
“Because Messi was an opportunity and they jumped into that deal.”
Paris Saint-Germain considered Henderson
Henderson isn’t the type of player PSG usually go for but this is entirely believable to us. The Liverpool captain could have been perfect for them, in fact.
PSG are a side full of great players but they struggle to get over the line in the Champions League. Henderson is an ideal player to push them onto the next level.
He’s a proven winner and leader as someone who becomes a glue in the side. Henderson covers gaps, orders players around, and delivers what the team needs to win every game.
His record is just absolutely phenomenal in recent years. His only Premier League defeats as a midfielder since January 2019 have come away at Manchester City (Jan. 2019 & July 2020).
Henderson makes teams better and PSG could have used that kind of player around all of their stars.
He was reportedly up for grabs, too. Henderson’s contract negotiations stalled and Liverpool had to consider a sale, according to reports. Liverpool were moving towards another Gini Wijnaldum situation, where they lose a key player to a massive side due to their age.
The Reds were unsure about long-term contracts for players in their 30s. Fortunately, they saw sense.
Henderson ended up signing a new contract with Liverpool, putting any talk of an exit to rest. With giants like PSG circling, we couldn’t be happier with that.
