Curtis Jones has a ‘genius mentality’ – or at least, that’s what people close to him reportedly think. The Liverpool player is enjoying an impressive week.
It’s been a really great week for Curtis Jones. He got his first start of the season against Norwich City in the EFL Cup and used it to demonstrate incredible versatility.
Jones played as a holding midfielder, dropping deep and dictating tempo for the side. He did it very well, too, despite it being the first time he’d played the role at senior level.
We were very impressed. The 20-year-old had played as a left-winger just a few days beforehand, and a box-to-box player, too. How many young players can do that?
Jones followed that up with a start against Brentford and again, he played very well. Jurgen Klopp made sure to single him out after the game – even if he also called for him to be more consistent.
The Scouser played his all-around midfielder role again in London, scoring once and proving reliable in defence. It was a performance that will force Jones into the picture with more regularity.
And it certainly seems as though Liverpool as a whole are impressed with Jones. Some even reportedly throw the word ‘genius’ around.
The ‘genius mentality’ of Curtis Jones
This comes from the Athletic. They write that ‘those close to Jones’ believe he has a ‘genius mentality’. This is after listing those who rate him very highly at Liverpool.
We can’t comment on the ‘genius’ part of it but the 20-year-old quite clearly has a wonderful mentality. His bravery on the ball is plain to see but as we already mentioned, he has a wonderful capacity for playing and learning new positions.
That’s not easy. Liverpool ask specific things from every player and Jones has the capacity to grasp those things across midfield. To do so with confidence – and at his age – is quite extraordinary.
We’re very high on Jones and it’s great to see growing praise for the player. That mentality will certainly take him far.
