Thomas Muller could be the next Jurgen Klopp. That’s according to one former Bayern Munich star.
Could Thomas Muller be the next Jurgen Klopp? It’s very possible, according to Mario Gomez.
The former Stuttgart, Bayern Munich and Besiktas striker feels the two are quite similar, viewing their approach with people to be a strength. He believes his former teammate will follow in the Liverpool boss’s footsteps.
Thomas Muller the next Klopp?
“I’m a big fan of Jürgen Klopp,” Gomez told AbendZeitung. “Regardless of whether I’ve seen him as an expert on television or as an opposing coach on the sidelines: Jürgen Klopp is simply an incredible catcher of people who you always enjoy listening to.
“I once compared that to Thomas Müller. That’s why I also believe that Thomas will be Klopp’s successor – whatever he will do after his active career. But Thomas will take over the Klopp role.”
Klopp is a very highly-regarded figure in German football, of course. As Gomez points out, his role as an expert on television made many a fan.
The 2006 World Cup in Germany saw Klopp take up a role as a TV pundit. He explained tactics in such a personable way that he quickly became a star and the then-Mainz boss increased his standing in the country.
Two years later, Borussia Dortmund took a punt on him despite a relegation with Mainz.
It was Klopp’s ability to capture peoples’ attention that really impressed people and that’s something he’s continued throughout his managerial career. In fact, only this week former Liverpool player Ragnar Klavan was waxing lyrical about the German’s man-management.
So can Muller be the next Klopp? Honestly, we have no idea. What is clear, though, is that following in Klopp’s footsteps is an incredibly difficult task.
Not only is he one of the world’s most successful managers but he’s done it in such a way that he’s also one of the most charismatic. If Muller achieves even half of that, he’s done well.
