Pepe will return in time to face Liverpool with Porto next week, according to reports. The 38-year-old has been battling an injury.
This comes from Record. They claim Porto can count on Pepe to face Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League next Tuesday.
The 38-year-old is enjoying a wonderful twilight to his career, shining in big games for Porto last season after being named club captain. There’s little doubt that they’ll want him in the XI to face Liverpool.
That promises to be a huge game for both sides – though, every game does in this group. It’s comfortably the toughest group going and one that demands the best from each club.
Porto, then, know that beating Liverpool at home would be an enormous step closer to progression. Without it, they’ll rely on either the Reds or Atletico Madrid slipping up elsewhere.
And that’s before we mention AC Milan, who proved at Anfield that they have the quality to compete with their group rivals. They’ll fancy their chances of taking points off of every opponent.
Pepe returns for Porto to face Liverpool
A 38-year-old isn’t usually a player you have to fear very much but Porto will be stronger with Pepe in the side. He played a key role as they knocked out Juventus last year – the Portuguese defender was arguably their best player across the legs.
Thus Liverpool fans shouldn’t look at this as an ageing player who won’t keep up with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. This is bad news for what will already be a difficult night.
Of course, we’ll still back Liverpool to get the better of Porto. They usually do anyway, and the Reds look capable of causing anyone problems – except 10-man Chelsea, it seems.
