This summer the Reds opted against signing another forward. Kopites were clamouring for an addition but no transfer was made. Rumours persisted until the final day. Next summer they told us, again. According to The Athletic, Liverpool target Ismaila Sarr is likely to leave next year.
Why Liverpool need a forward
Father time waits for no man. The Reds’ famed front three will all be 30-years-old by the start of next season.
Roberto Firmino will be 31-years-old next October.
As a result it’s time to start thinking about a succession plan.
That is to say Jürgen Klopp needs to bit by bit start assembling his next attacking trio.
Furthermore, there is a distinct lack of depth behind the main attackers with just four players of suitable quality covering three positions.
Liverpool target Ismaila Sarr to leave
Over the summer one of the players constantly linked with a move was Watford’s star winger.
However, no such transfer materialised for the Senegal international.
The Athletic has reported that Liverpool previously tried to sign Ismaila Sarr, ahead of Diogo Jota.
Apparently the deal fell through because the North of London side wanted £40m whilst the Portugal star could come for an initial outlay of £4.5m.
A source told The Athletic that, ‘next year (is likely) to be the right time’ for Ismaila Sarr to leave Watford.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool moving for Ismaila Sarr next summer would make sense.
However, there is the issue that his price tag is only going to go up between now and then.
The Watford winger has started the season in blistering form with three goals in five games.
He appears to be growing in stature and in value.
