While waiting for Liverpool to take on AC Milan in Wednesday’s huge Champions League tie, fans should be keeping an eye on Borussia Dortmund in the early kick-off.
The Reds take on the Italian giants at 8pm UK time. However, Marco Rose’s men will face Besiktas in one of the two 5.45pm games.
Many will probably be tuning into this fixture as they await some big games in the later time slots.
We believe that it is certainly one that Liverpool fans, and recruitment staff, should be watching closely.
Dortmund would expect to win this game, but trips to Turkey on European nights are rarely simple.
They have had a fairly decent start to the new season. They have won three out of their four Bundesliga games, while they also lost to Bayern Munich in the German Supercup.
There are quite a few reasons that we think Dortmund will be of big interest to Liverpool, both tonight and for the rest of the season.
Dortmund have some players, and a manager, that may interest Liverpool
First of all, Dortmund’s manager Marco Rose is one of the best around.
He made great steps at Red Bull Salzburg and Borussia Monchengladbach. The Westfalenstadion side was the next big leap on his journey to the top of the game.
He has impressed thus far, and we expect him to take the club to heights not seen since Jurgen Klopp’s time at the club.
Yes, Steven Gerrard will be most people’s candidate to replace the German boss in 2024. But if the timing isn’t right, then one of Klopp’s former players could be the ideal choice.
Speaking of Gerrard, he has seemingly been reincarnated in the form of Jude Bellingham. He is likely to play a big role in Vodafone Park this evening.
We have gone on and on about how he is the dream signing for Liverpool in 2022 or 2023.
Kopites have seen quite a bit of him for England and in other big Champions League games, but this is another great opportunity.
Fans should also be watching Erling Haaland, who is likely to be available next summer.
His release clause means that Liverpool should be in the mix.
He is a future Ballon d’Or winner in our eyes, so fans should keep an eye and see how many he scores.
Yet there are plenty of more reasons to watch Dortmund tonight.
What about the one that got away, Donyell Malen? Or 16-year-old sensation Youssoufa Moukoko?
One thing for sure is that we will be watching intently. It should be a great starter ahead of the main course at Anfield.
